There is nothing wrong with vocalizing our frustration, and taking a moment to find our calm if we can. Or, if you can't step away, some silly vocalizations help me ease my own tension. I often forget during the day to day of trying to keep up that it is okay and healthy to slow down. My personal favorite way to do this is by taking a mental picture. If you're a fan of The Office you already know where I'm going with this. I can't remember the day to day very well usually. But If I look back to those times that I allowed myself to simply *be* for a moment and notice what was going on around me, I can remember in almost exact detail those moments. Sitting on a swing with two of my babies in my lap. Playing in the creek and catching crawdads. My daughter's baby belly laugh when Daddy made funny faces at her. It's okay to slow down. I’m sure you’ve heard variations of this mantr I’m sure you’ve heard variations of this mantra. However you say it, it rings true and holds so much comfort. We cannot change the past. Guilt we hold, mistakes we feel we’ve made, things that seemed so important, and thoughts we’ve had or voiced cannot be changed. But today is a new day. So yesterday maybe you yelled at your child or were a little less grounded than you’d have liked. Maybe yesterday you and your partner fought. Maybe yesterday a lot of things happened. But luckily- Today and yesterday are unrelated. Today might hold an apology or a minute to yourself. Today might need a phone call to a friend. Today is its own fresh start.
